Dem Sen. Ruben Gallago warns party GOP is trying to pull Fetterman further right

Arizona Sen. Ruben Gallego recently came to the defense of fellow Democrat John Fetterman, who has been facing criticism from within his own party. Despite the allegations of erratic behavior and clashes with the progressive wing of the Democratic party, Gallego emphasized the importance of accommodating diverse viewpoints within the party.

During an interview in Pennsylvania, Gallego stated, “There needs to be space for Fetterman and for other senators in our caucus. He still is a senator that fights for working-class people. We may not be 100% in agreement a lot of times in a lot of areas, but we don’t have to be.”

Fetterman’s independent streak, which includes his stance on Israel and willingness to work with President Donald Trump, has raised eyebrows among some Democrats. Additionally, reports of strange behavior and a decline in popularity among Democratic voters in Pittsburgh have fueled speculation and negative media coverage.

Media observer Joe Concha pointed out that these attacks on Fetterman appear to be coordinated and malicious. Despite the backlash, Republican senators like Dave McCormick and Tom Cotton have come to Fetterman’s defense, emphasizing his authenticity and principled approach.

Gallego warned against the GOP’s attempts to exploit the situation and push Fetterman further to the right. He described these tactics as “f—f— games” and urged Democrats to remain united against such divisive strategies.

In a town hall event, Gallego addressed the need for inclusivity within the party, even acknowledging a fundraising event with a pro-Trump businessman. He stressed the importance of maintaining a diverse coalition to win elections and stand up against the Trump administration.
