Police seek information about 1999 killing of Michael Peverill in Dartmouth

Friday was the 25th anniversary of the murder of Michael Joseph Peverill in Dartmouth, and police continue to investigate the case.

On Jan. 19, 1999, at about 3:20 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a report of an injured man at 88 Queen St. Responding officers discovered Peverill had suffered a fatal gunshot wound.

Peverill, 31, was last seen entering his apartment at 2 p.m. that day. He had moved into the building one week before his death, but he knew and frequently visited the previous tenant.

“Investigators believe there are people who have information in relation to Michael’s death, and hope that the passage of time may encourage someone to do the right thing and come forward with what they know,” police said in a news release Friday.

“Our investigators believe that even the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation.”

Police are asking anyone with information about Peverill’s murder to contact them at 902-490-5020.

The case is part of the provincial Justice Department’s Rewards for Major Unsolved Crimes Program, which offers up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for specified crimes.

Callers must contact the rewards program at 1-888-710-9090, provide their name and contact information, and may have to testify in court. All calls will be recorded. The amount of the award will be based on the investigative value of the information provided.
