Bus crash in Manitoba claims 17th victim, woman dies in hospital
CARBERRY, man. – RCMP says a 17th victim died on Sunday from injuries sustained in a bus crash west of Winnipeg – a 79-year-old woman who had been hospitalized since the collision just over a month ago.
Seniors from Dauphin, Man., were on a minibus making a day trip to the Sand Hills Casino, 120 miles south, when the fiery crash occurred on June 15.
They were only minutes away from the casino when, according to dash cam footage viewed by police, the bus entered the path of a transport truck traveling east on the Trans-Canada Highway.
Fifteen people on the bus died that day and another died in hospital the following week.
The 25 people on the bus, including the driver, were from Dauphin and the surrounding area.
They were remembered as beloved grandparents, mothers, fathers and siblings. Many were active in their tight-knit community more than 200 miles northwest of Winnipeg.
Those who died ranged in age from 68 to 88, with 11 of them in their 80s. All but two were women.
