Trump addresses Ukraine-Russia peace talks, says Zelenskyy will be involved

President Donald Trump spoke about his plans to end the Russo-Ukrainian War during a press gaggle on Sunday, expressing his belief that the leaders of both countries “want to stop fighting.” Addressing reporters on the tarmac at Palm Beach International Airport in West Palm Beach, Florida, Trump emphasized his efforts to achieve peace between Russia and Ukraine.
“It’s a war that should have never started,” Trump stated, underscoring the need for resolution in the ongoing conflict. He revealed that he is actively working towards peace negotiations with both countries, aiming to bring an end to the violence that has plagued the region for years.
When questioned about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s involvement in the discussions, Trump confirmed that Zelenskyy will indeed be engaged in the peace talks. Additionally, Trump expressed his willingness to allow European nations to purchase American-made weapons to support Ukraine in defending itself against Russian aggression.
Trump also shared his belief that Russian President Vladimir Putin desires to bring an end to the war, highlighting the formidable military capabilities of Russia. He acknowledged the historical significance of Russia’s military victories and suggested that Putin may be inclined to cease hostilities.
“I think he wants to stop fighting,” Trump asserted, referring to Putin. “They have a big, powerful machine, you understand that? And they defeated Hitler and they defeated Napoleon. You know, he’s been fighting a long time…I think he would like to stop fighting.”
In light of Zelenskyy’s recent comments about Putin and his apprehensions regarding the Russian leader’s intentions, Trump expressed confidence in his ability to push for peace negotiations. Despite Zelenskyy’s skepticism towards Putin’s sincerity, Trump believes that his strong leadership can compel Putin to engage in meaningful discussions.
The press conference followed an interview with Zelenskyy on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” where the Ukrainian leader voiced his concerns about Putin and his hopes for Trump’s intervention in the peace process. Zelenskyy’s remarks underscored the urgency of finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict and the crucial role of international diplomacy in achieving stability in the region.
As Trump continues to navigate the complexities of the Russo-Ukrainian War, his commitment to promoting peace and fostering dialogue between the warring parties remains steadfast. With both Russian and Ukrainian leaders expressing a willingness to end the fighting, Trump’s diplomatic efforts hold the potential to bring about a much-needed ceasefire and pave the way for lasting peace in the region.
