Darkangelo’s hat trick powers Ottawa Charge into playoff position

Shiann Darkangelo shines in PWHL matchup, securing hat trick against former team

Shiann Darkangelo showcased her talent in a stunning performance against her former team as the Ottawa Charge triumphed over the Boston Fleet with a resounding 4-0 victory. The game, which took place on Wednesday night, marked the league’s final matchup before a three-week break for the IIHF Women’s World Championship.

Darkangelo, a standout player for Ottawa, recorded her first PWHL hat trick in spectacular fashion. The forward opened the scoring just 45 seconds into the game with a power-play goal. Positioned in front of the net, Darkangelo expertly redirected Anna Meixner’s pass past Boston goaltender Aerin Frankel to give Ottawa an early lead.

Midway through the second period, Darkangelo struck again to extend Ottawa’s advantage to 2-0. Ronja Savolainen set up the goal by creating space for Darkangelo, who capitalized on the opportunity with a clinical finish.

The talented forward completed her hat trick in the third period, netting her eighth goal of the season with a one-timer that deflected off the skate of Sydney Bard. Darkangelo’s stellar performance proved to be the difference-maker in the game, securing a crucial win for Ottawa.

Ottawa’s victory propelled them past Minnesota in the standings, moving them into fourth place – the final playoff spot. With three points from their second consecutive win against Boston, Ottawa’s playoff hopes are looking promising.

Notably, Darkangelo’s hat trick marked Ottawa’s third of the season, with Tereza Vanišová also achieving the feat twice. Goalkeeper Gwyneth Philips put on a strong performance, earning her second shutout of the season during her rookie campaign.

The Fleet, who returned to the Tsongas Center for the first time in weeks, faced a tough challenge from Ottawa’s formidable lineup. Despite their efforts, Boston suffered just their second home loss of the season.

In a game that had its share of physicality, Ottawa defenseman Zoe Boyd received a five-minute major and a game misconduct in the third period. However, the Charge managed to maintain their composure and secure a dominant victory over their opponents.

Overall, Darkangelo’s standout performance and Ottawa’s strong team effort showcased their determination and skill on the ice. With the playoffs looming, the Charge look poised to make a deep run in the PWHL as they continue to build momentum heading into the postseason.
