Top Republican urges new SBA chief take ‘DOGE’ actions against Biden-era electioneering, COVID loan claims

The House Committee on Small Business is calling on President Donald Trump’s new Small Business Administration (SBA) chief to address concerns that the Biden administration failed to address. Rep. Roger Williams, the top Republican on the committee, is urging SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler to provide answers on alleged taxpayer-funded electioneering in swing states and the failure to actively recoup fraudulent or misappropriated COVID relief funds.
Williams expressed his frustration with how the Biden administration had shifted the SBA’s focus away from its intended mission of serving Main Street America. He highlighted the lack of transparency from the Biden-Harris SBA, particularly in regards to an executive order on promoting access to voting and a memorandum of understanding with Michigan election officials.
In a letter to Administrator Loeffler, the committee raised concerns about the Biden-era rule changes that they believe pose a threat to the SBA’s small-business-lending portfolio. They also pointed out the alleged mishandling of COVID relief funds, estimating that approximately $200 billion went to potentially fraudulent recipients.
The committee emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in addressing these issues, citing the Trump administration’s efforts to investigate fraud and recover misallocated funds. They expressed their eagerness to work with Administrator Loeffler to restore credibility and transparency to the SBA.
Last year, Williams had issued a rare committee subpoena for information from the SBA to determine if taxpayer money was being used for voter registration efforts in Michigan. Democrats on the panel criticized the GOP’s inquiry as partisan, but Williams remained steadfast in his pursuit of congressional oversight.
Overall, the committee is committed to ensuring that small businesses have a voice in government and bringing prosperity to Main Street America. With the support of the Trump administration, they hope to address these pressing issues and uphold the integrity of the SBA’s mission.
