Cape Breton police charge 2nd person in case of missing man

A second arrest has been made in connection with the disappearance of 36-year-old Cape Breton man, Kenneth Justin MacDonald, who police have now confirmed was the victim of a homicide. Ryan Joseph Pike has been charged with second-degree murder and robbery in relation to MacDonald’s disappearance. He was apprehended in Reserve Mines, N.S., on Friday.

MacDonald, known as Justin to his loved ones, vanished in July, prompting an intensive investigation by Cape Breton Regional Police. The case was officially deemed a homicide last month. Mitchell George McPhee was previously arrested and charged with manslaughter, robbery, and assault in connection with the case.

MacDonald was last seen at the Irving gas station in North Sydney, N.S., on July 7, as captured by the store’s security camera. His vehicle was later discovered approximately 25 kilometers away in the Ormond Crescent area of Mira Road. Despite ongoing efforts by MacDonald’s family and friends to uncover information about his whereabouts, his body has yet to be located.

Authorities urge anyone with knowledge about the case to contact regional police at 902-563-5151. The community remains deeply troubled by MacDonald’s tragic fate, and the search for justice continues.
