Cape Breton police lay manslaughter charge in case of man missing since July
Cape Breton Regional Police have made a breakthrough in the case of the disappearance of Kenneth Justin MacDonald, who went missing in July. The police have arrested and charged a man with manslaughter in connection with MacDonald’s disappearance. The man, identified as Mitchell George McPhee, was taken into custody in Sydney on December 12 as part of the ongoing investigation by the major crime unit.
According to police spokesperson Desiree Magnus, McPhee has been charged with manslaughter, robbery, and assault in relation to the case. The investigation is still ongoing, and more arrests and charges are expected in the coming days. Magnus mentioned that the police are withholding some details at this time due to the possibility of further arrests.
MacDonald was last seen at the Irving gas station in North Sydney, where he was captured on store video. His vehicle was later discovered about 25 kilometers away in the Ormond Crescent area of Mira Road. Despite extensive efforts by MacDonald’s family and friends to find him, his body has not been located.
McPhee remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. The police are urging anyone with information about MacDonald’s disappearance to come forward and contact the regional police at 902-563-5151.
