Capitol Police arrest dozens protesting Trump’s ‘big, beautiful bill’

U.S. Capitol Police arrested numerous demonstrators inside the Capitol rotunda and outside Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. as the Senate debated President Donald Trump’s proposed bill. According to reports, protesters were voicing their opposition to the Republican tax and spending cut bill at two separate locations – the Capitol Rotunda and an intersection near the U.S. Capitol Building. Those arrested are facing charges such as crowding, obstructing, and incommoding.

Fox News Digital has reached out to the U.S. Capitol Police for further details on the arrests. Images from the protests inside the rotunda depicted demonstrators holding signs that read “cuts to SNAP are policy murder,” while one man wore a shirt that said “Poor People’s Campaign.” The protests were organized by the Repairers of the Breach group, with participants praying and submitting to arrest by the police.

Outside the Capitol, protesters carried black wooden coffins with signs highlighting the potential impacts of the bill on Medicaid and SNAP recipients in various states. Some of the coffins displayed messages like “This Coffin Represents Policy Murder” and “574,000 People in Florida Will Lose SNAP.” The demonstrations also included individuals wearing religious attire, emphasizing the diversity of participants united in their opposition to the bill.

The protests coincide with Republican lawmakers’ efforts to pass significant legislation to advance President Trump’s agenda before the July 4 deadline. The budget reconciliation bill currently under Senate review aims to address key issues such as taxes, immigration, energy, defense, and the national debt. The demonstrations underscore a broader movement challenging unjust policies and calling for a higher standard of governance.
