Driver Plows Into Crowd Outside Soccer Match in Barcelona

On Thursday, Spanish officials reported that a driver lost control and plowed into a crowd gathered outside a professional soccer match in Barcelona, injuring 13 people. Catalonia police have stated that the incident was an accident.

The unfortunate event took place during the opening minutes of Barcelona’s game against crosstown rival Espanyol. Despite the chaos, Barcelona managed to secure the Spanish league title.

Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, transporting seven individuals to nearby hospitals for minor injuries while providing on-site treatment for the remaining victims.

Authorities have detained the driver, a 34-year-old woman, who tested negative for drugs and alcohol. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Salvador Illa, the regional president of Catalonia, assured the public that all injuries were minor and confirmed that there was no deliberate attack involved.

Police also confirmed that the incident posed no threat to those inside the RCDE stadium.
