Carrie Underwood, Village People to perform at Trump inauguration events

Country music superstar Carrie Underwood is set to perform America the Beautiful at Donald Trump’s inauguration next week, according to a copy of the inaugural program provided to The Associated Press on Monday. The former American Idol winner expressed her excitement in a statement, saying, “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event. I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”

Joining Underwood in the lineup is the iconic 1970s disco group Village People, known for their chant-along dance-pop hits. The group is scheduled to perform at one of Trump’s inaugural balls and at a rally in Washington the day before the inauguration. Despite some controversy surrounding their performance, the band took to Facebook to address the concerns, stating, “Our song Y.M.C.A. is a global anthem that hopefully helps bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign where our preferred candidate lost.”

In addition to Underwood and Village People, other performers at the inauguration ceremony include country singer Lee Greenwood and opera singer Christopher Macchio, both of whom are favorites of the president-elect. The events leading up to the inauguration are set to kick off this weekend with fireworks, a campaign-style rally, and glitzy dinners.

Trump’s second inauguration is expected to be different from his first, with a schedule of events that reflect his commitment to uniting the country through his America First agenda. The ceremonies will culminate in the swearing-in ceremony on January 20, where Biden is planning to attend.

The festivities will continue with a series of events, including a reception and fireworks display at Trump National Golf Club, a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, and a “MAGA Victory” rally at Capital One Arena in downtown Washington. The Village People are slated to perform at the rally as part of the celebration.

The inaugural balls will include a Commander in Chief Ball, a Liberty Inaugural Ball featuring a Village People performance, and the Starlight Ball for high-dollar donors. Trump is set to speak at all three events, with incoming first lady Melania Trump joining him for tea with the Bidens on Inauguration Day.

As the nation prepares for the historic event, supporters and critics alike are gearing up for a weekend of celebrations and demonstrations surrounding the inauguration. With performances from a diverse lineup of artists, the 2025 inauguration of Donald Trump promises to be a memorable and unifying event for the American people.
