Chicago hosts Jeremy Allen White lookalike contest

CHICAGO –

The city of Chicago witnessed a unique event over the weekend as more than 50 individuals gathered in a local park for a Jeremy Allen White lookalike contest. White, known for his role as Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto in the popular Chicago-based TV series “The Bear,” had fans and spectators buzzing with excitement.

Contestants from all walks of life came together to showcase their resemblance to the actor, with the winner receiving not only the title of White’s unofficial body double but also a cash prize of $50 and a pack of cigarettes, paying homage to the character’s on-screen persona as a cigarette-smoking chef.

In the series, Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto is affectionately referred to as the “Bear,” as he navigates the culinary world while managing his family’s sandwich shop in Chicago. The character’s dream of owning a fine dining establishment with the same moniker adds depth to his portrayal on the show.

Amidst a backdrop of cheering onlookers, the coveted title was awarded to 37-year-old mental health therapist Ben Shabad, as reported by the Chicago Sun-Times. Shabad expressed his excitement, proclaiming, “This is the coolest thing I’ve done all week,” as he was lifted into the air with a crown atop his head and the pack of cigarettes in hand.

While the majority of participants were white males, the event also saw the inclusion of women and individuals from diverse ethnic backgrounds, showcasing the widespread appeal of Jeremy Allen White’s character. Notably, there was even a toddler who joined in the fun as a mini White lookalike.

Reflecting on the unexpected turnout, event organizers were pleased with the enthusiastic response, with fan Alexis Kline expressing her admiration for White by likening him to a “Roman god.”
