Here’s who is nominated for the 2025 Canadian Screen Awards

The 2025 Canadian Screen Awards nominations were revealed on Wednesday, showcasing the best in Canadian film, television, and digital media. The crime series “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent” emerged as a frontrunner with 20 nominations, dominating both the television and overall categories. The show, which follows a team of Canadian police detectives investigating high-profile crimes and corruption in Toronto, received nods in categories such as best lead performer (Kathleen Munroe), drama series, and best direction.
In the film category, “Universal Language,” directed by Matthew Rankin, led the pack with 13 nominations, including best motion picture and achievement in direction. David Cronenberg’s “The Shrouds” followed closely behind with nine nominations.
Other notable nominees included drama miniseries “Bones of Crows,” comedy series “Children Ruin Everything” and “Run the Burbs,” and comedy digital media series “My Dead Mom.” The children’s sci-fi series “Davey and Jonesie’s Locker” also received recognition with 10 nominations.
The annual Canadian Screen Awards ceremony is set to kick off on May 30 and conclude on June 1, with comedian Lisa Gilroy hosting the show, which will be broadcast live on CBC Gem at 8 p.m. ET. This year, a total of 265 feature, documentary, and short films received nominations, along with 433 television and digital media titles.
Among the nominees for the John Dunning award for best first feature film were “Deaner ’89,” “Hunting Daze,” and “Mongrels.” Performance categories included leading roles in both drama and comedy films, as well as drama series and comedy series. The best factual series category featured titles such as “In Cold Water: The Shelter Bay Mystery” and “Who Owns the World.”
