Chris Brown to be held in custody over alleged 2023 assault in U.K.

Grammy-winning singer Chris Brown’s upcoming tour faces uncertainty as a British judge ordered him to be held in custody while facing allegations of assaulting a music producer with a bottle in a London nightclub in 2023. The incident took place while Brown was on tour in the U.K., specifically at the Tape nightclub in the upscale Mayfair neighborhood in London.
During a court appearance at Manchester Magistrates’ Court, Brown, 36, faced one count of causing grievous bodily harm and was denied bail by Judge Joanne Hirst. The prosecutor, Hannah Nicholls, described the attack on producer Abe Diaw as “extremely serious” and presented evidence of Brown striking Diaw with a bottle and then physically assaulting him in front of a crowd at the nightclub. The attack was captured on surveillance camera footage.
Despite defense attorney Grace Forbes arguing that Brown was not a flight risk, the judge ordered him to remain in custody until his next hearing on June 13 in London. This poses a potential conflict with Brown’s scheduled performance in Frankfurt, Germany, on the same day, as part of his world tour.
Brown’s representative did not provide immediate comment on the situation. The case has been transferred to Southwark Crown Court in London, where Brown is expected to enter a plea to the charge.
Chris Brown, known by the nickname Breezy, rose to fame as a teenager in 2005 and has since become a prominent figure in the music industry with hits like “Run It,” “Kiss Kiss,” and “Without You.” He has won multiple Grammy Awards, including one for Best R&B Album in 2011 and another earlier this year.
The singer is set to kick off an international tour next month, with performances scheduled in Europe and North America. The tour will feature artists such as Jhene Aiko, Summer Walker, and Bryson Tiller, with shows planned in Amsterdam, Toronto, and other major cities.
As the legal proceedings unfold, Brown’s fans and concertgoers await updates on the status of his tour and the impact of the ongoing case on his music career. Stay tuned for further developments as the story continues to evolve.
