Zayn Malik Pays Emotional Tribute to Liam Payne at First Concert Since His Passing
Zayn Malik recently took to the stage for his first concert since the tragic death of fellow One Direction member, Liam Payne, and it was an emotional night for both the singer and fans alike.
Payne tragically passed away in October after a fatal fall from a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina at the young age of 31, leaving behind a devastated fanbase and music industry.
During his performance in Leeds, England over the weekend, Malik ended the show with a heartfelt tribute to his late friend. The words “Liam Payne 1993-2024 Love you bro” were projected on the screen, leaving attendees in tears.
One concert-goer shared their experience on social media, writing, “Zayn Malik’s tribute to Liam Payne at the end of his first concert of the tour while playing Stardust I’m shaking and crying.”
Malik had initially postponed his tour following Payne’s tragic passing, sharing the news on Instagram. The U.S. leg of the STAIRWAY TO THE SKY tour was rescheduled for January to allow for grieving and processing of the loss.
Together with Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Niall Horan, Malik released a statement expressing their devastation over Payne’s death. They shared, “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing… The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.”
The group, along with friends and family of Payne, recently gathered for his funeral to pay their final respects.
One Direction announced their hiatus in 2015, following Malik’s departure from the group, but their bond and memories with Payne remain strong.
