Colby Barnett’s early goal lifts AFC Toronto past Halifax Tides 1-0 in NSL

AFC Toronto secured a 1-0 victory over Halifax Tides FC in the Northern Super League, with Colby Barnett’s sixth-minute goal proving to be the deciding factor in the match. The goal came from a well-executed high cross from Nikayla Small, which found Barnett unmarked in the box. Barnett calmly volleyed the ball past Tides goalkeeper Erin McLeod to give Toronto the early lead at Wanderers Grounds.

The win sees Toronto extend their unbeaten run to three games, putting them level on points with second-placed Ottawa Rapid FC and Vancouver Rise FC. Ottawa, however, has played one game less than Toronto. On the other hand, Halifax continues to struggle in the league, sitting at the bottom of the standings with a record of 0-3-1 and still searching for their first win of the season.

Toronto dominated possession in the game, holding 51% of the ball and creating more chances with a 10-7 edge in shot attempts, including 4-2 on target. Head coach Marko Milanovic expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, emphasizing the continuous improvement and development of the squad.

Looking ahead, Halifax will face Vancouver in their next fixture on Wednesday, while Toronto will travel to Montreal to take on league leaders Roses FC on Thursday. The upcoming matches will provide both teams with an opportunity to further solidify their position in the standings and continue their quest for success in the Northern Super League.
