Funeral held for members of killed Bibas family handed over by Hamas

A funeral procession for a mother and her two young sons is set to take place on Wednesday morning in Rishon Lezion, Israel. The remains of Shiri Bibas and her sons Ariel and Kfir were recently turned over by Hamas as part of a hostage exchange between Israel and the terror group.

The funeral will be held near the family’s home in Kibbutz Nir Oz, at a private ceremony in Zohar. The Times of Israel reported that the event will be closed to the public. The family has shared the route of the funeral procession and has requested public support as the remains are transported.

Last week, Hamas handed over a coffin containing Shiri Bibas’ remains to the Red Cross, which then transferred the coffin to Israeli authorities. The positive identification of Shiri Bibas was confirmed on Saturday morning.

Prior to this, Hamas had initially handed over a Palestinian woman from Gaza on Thursday. The group claimed that they had no intention of withholding any bodies in their possession. They stated that the deceased hostages handed over on Thursday had been killed in an Israeli airstrike in November 2023, and that the bodies may have been misidentified due to the bombings in the area.

Before the remains of Shiri Bibas were handed over, Israeli authorities had already positively identified the remains of her two sons, as well as another hostage named Oded Lifshitz.

The heartbreaking tragedy of the Bibas family, who were kidnapped to Gaza in 2023, has deeply affected the community and sparked international outrage. The funeral procession serves as a somber reminder of the devastating impact of conflict and terrorism on innocent lives.
