Crisanta Duran ends campaign for Colorado attorney general

Former Colorado House Speaker Crisanta Duran has made the decision to withdraw from the race for Colorado Attorney General. In a statement released on Sunday morning, Duran expressed her initial intentions for running for the position, citing a desire to combat the monopolies of power that have negatively impacted Americans’ health, safety, and economic security.

During her time as a four-term state legislator representing northwest Denver, Duran served as House speaker from 2017 to 2019. Despite launching her campaign in February, Duran did not provide specific reasons for her decision to end her bid for attorney general.

The Democratic primary for Colorado Attorney General is already crowded with candidates, including former federal prosecutor Hetal Doshi, Secretary of State Jena Griswold, Boulder District Attorney Michael Dougherty, and David Seligman, the executive director of the legal nonprofit Towards Justice. The incumbent Attorney General, Phil Weiser, is term-limited and will be running for governor in 2026.

In her statement, Duran emphasized her commitment to advancing progress in Colorado and the nation, highlighting the importance of federal solutions in achieving fair outcomes. She expressed her continued dedication to advocating for bold action from elected leaders to propel the community forward.

The decision to withdraw from the race does not diminish Duran’s passion for creating positive change. As she looks towards the future, Duran remains focused on ensuring that elected officials prioritize the needs of the people and work towards a better future for all.
