Dallas Police employee fired after allegedly lying about college degree

An employee at the Dallas Police Department has been terminated after allegations surfaced that she lied about her college degree in order to secure a promotion. Gina Fowler-Strickland, who held the position of police report representative, was fired following a disciplinary hearing with the police chief, as reported by Fox 4.

The Dallas Police Department cited Strickland’s termination as a result of her involvement in “adverse conduct” when she was arrested for possessing a fraudulent or fictitious degree. Court records from June 2023 revealed that Strickland faced charges of fraud and fictitious degree for allegedly misrepresenting her academic qualifications to advance her career within the department.

Despite being issued a warrant for her arrest after failing to appear in court, the warrant was later recalled for reasons that remain unclear. Subsequently, in November, the district attorney’s office dropped the charges against Strickland after she successfully completed a pre-trial intervention program.

In the state of Texas, falsifying information about one’s educational background for employment purposes is considered a class B misdemeanor, punishable by a maximum of 180 days in jail and a fine of up to $2,000.

The case of Gina Fowler-Strickland serves as a reminder of the consequences individuals face when attempting to deceive their employers through misrepresentation. It underscores the importance of honesty and integrity in the workplace, especially within law enforcement agencies where trust and credibility are paramount.
