Democrat NJ mayor arrested for DUI demands officers call police chief: bodycam

Lumberton Township Mayor Gina LaPlaca was recently arrested for driving under the influence, and bodycam footage from the incident has been released to the public. The video shows LaPlaca failing a field sobriety test outside her home, with her young son in the car at the time of the arrest.

In the footage, LaPlaca initially denies having anything to drink but later admits to consuming alcohol. She is seen removing her son from the car and struggling to answer questions from the officers. The side of her car was damaged, and she claimed to have no recollection of hitting anything.

A witness captured video of LaPlaca driving erratically, leading to the police being called and tracking her down at her home. She was then taken into custody after failing the sobriety test. A search of her car revealed an open bottle of alcohol.

LaPlaca was charged with endangering a child, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and other offenses. In a separate video, she can be seen in a holding cell, asking to go home to see her son. Her husband later revealed that she struggles with addiction and is seeking help.

Despite the controversy surrounding her arrest, LaPlaca’s husband urged the public to focus on her efforts to help the community. She is scheduled to appear in court on April 28.

The incident has sparked calls for LaPlaca to resign from her position as mayor. The footage serves as a reminder of the consequences of driving under the influence and the importance of seeking help for addiction.
