Demonstrator steals police car during anti-deportation protest in Arizona

Demonstrators in Arizona took to the streets on Sunday to protest against President Donald Trump’s mass deportation plan. The protest turned violent, with police officers being assaulted amid the demonstration, according to Glendale Police.

A large group of people gathered in Glendale to protest federal immigration policies. The situation escalated when a protester stole a police vehicle, driving it a short distance before it was recovered. The suspect remains unidentified at this time.

The protest led to the blocking of traffic in the area, with Glendale and Phoenix Police on the scene to monitor the situation. Police officers had to deploy chemical agents to disperse the unruly crowd, who were damaging police vehicles, businesses, and personal property in the vicinity.

Several officers were assaulted during the protest, and investigators will be looking into possible crimes committed during the demonstration. The protest in Arizona was part of a series of anti-deportation protests held in various cities across the country, including Los Angeles, Houston, and Atlanta.

The protests come in response to the Trump administration’s aggressive mass deportation efforts. Officials have been directed to increase the number of daily arrests from a few hundred to at least 1,200 to 1,500. The administration aims to remove all immigrants in the country illegally, not just those with criminal offenses.

The White House press secretary stated that all migrants accused of being in the U.S. illegally are considered criminals, leading to a culture shift in how immigration laws are viewed. However, crossing the border illegally is a crime, while being in the country without authorization is a civil violation.

Despite the administration’s claims of targeting migrants with criminal records, studies show that both legal and illegal migrants commit crimes at lower rates than U.S. citizens. The protests reflect the growing resistance to the mass deportation policies and the impact they have on immigrant communities.
