DHS alleges city council member ‘incited chaos’ as ICE arrested illegal alien

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has recently condemned the actions of Worcester, Massachusetts city council member Etel Haxhiaj, accusing her of inciting chaos during the arrest of a violent criminal illegal alien by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
According to DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin, Haxhiaj’s actions were deemed a “political stunt” that disrupted the law enforcement operation. The individual in question, Ferreira de Oliveira, was described by DHS as a “violent criminal alien” who had been arrested by local police for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery on a pregnant woman. The agency credited President Trump and Secretary Noem for removing this criminal from the streets.
The arrest of Oliveira was captured in tense video footage that showed a rowdy crowd of about 25 people gathering and disrupting the operation. The situation escalated quickly, with residents chanting slogans and attempting to obstruct the authorities from carrying out their duties. The Worcester Police Patrol Officers’ Union described the incident as “chaotic” and highlighted the emotional toll it took on officers responding to the scene.
The union further stated that the officers faced threats, abuse, and even physical assaults from the unruly crowd. Additional arrests had to be made due to the escalating situation, with Haxhiaj being singled out for her alleged role in inciting aggression towards the police. The union called for an ethics investigation into her behavior and emphasized the need for accountability for those who assaulted law enforcement officers.
During the chaotic events, another individual, Ashley Spring, was arrested for assaulting multiple officers and throwing an unknown liquid substance at them. Spring was charged with various offenses, including Assault and Battery on a Police Officer and Disorderly Conduct.
The Worcester Police Department confirmed that the investigation into the incident is ongoing, and further charges may be forthcoming. The situation underscores the challenges faced by law enforcement officers in handling emotionally charged scenarios involving arrests and separations of individuals.
In conclusion, the DHS and local authorities are emphasizing the importance of respecting law enforcement and maintaining public order. The actions of individuals like Haxhiaj and Spring are condemned for their disregard for the safety and authority of police officers. The incident serves as a reminder of the complexities involved in enforcing immigration laws and the need for cooperation between federal and local agencies.
