DNC hires new top exec with long history of pushing racial grievances, leftist ideology

After a disappointing performance in the November election, calls for the Democratic Party to moderate have been growing. In response, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) announced the hiring of Roger Lau as executive director. Lau, who has a history of promoting far-left ideologies, has worked on campaigns for Senator Elizabeth Warren and has been associated with progressive causes.
A recent press release from the DNC highlighted Lau’s long career, which includes signing onto a letter in 2020 that claimed the United States is built on “racism” and “genocide.” The letter, signed by Lau and over 100 other AAPI community leaders, stated that the country was founded on racism and highlighted issues such as racial profiling and the criminal justice system tearing families apart.
Additionally, Lau’s support for the Black Lives Matter movement was evident in a speech he helped craft for Senator Warren. Lau was responsible for incorporating hidden BLM messages into the senator’s DNC speech, according to an ABC News report from 2020.
In a video posted on the YouTube page of Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Lau can be seen discussing “white supremacy culture,” further showcasing his progressive beliefs. He has also opposed a resolution condemning the Chinese Communist Party for its handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
In response to his hiring, Lau stated, “The DNC is laser-focused on equipping Democrats across the country with the tools they need to win, and I am honored to support Chair Martin in this critical work.” He emphasized the importance of leveraging the DNC’s infrastructure, strengthening grassroots organizing, and turbocharging messaging to win elections.
Criticism has already been leveled at the DNC for its new leadership appointments, including Vice Chair David Hogg, whose past social media posts have sparked controversy. Conservative activists have raised concerns about Hogg’s policy positions and rhetoric against conservatives.
Despite these challenges, the DNC remains committed to preparing for the upcoming midterms. Critics have pointed out moments during the leadership vote that they believe show the party has not learned from its losses in the 2024 election.
As the Democratic Party continues to navigate its future direction, the hiring of Roger Lau as executive director signals a commitment to progressive ideals and a willingness to engage with issues of racial justice and systemic inequality. It remains to be seen how this approach will impact the party’s electoral prospects moving forward.
