DNC launches campaign accusing Trump of ‘killing the American dream’

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) has launched a new campaign targeting President Donald Trump, accusing him of “killing the American dream” through price hikes, market volatility, and the GOP-backed megabill passed by Congress. This campaign is part of the DNC’s efforts to broaden their appeal and regain momentum ahead of the 2026 midterms.

The campaign seeks to tie Trump directly to recent price hikes on consumer goods, such as groceries and baby food, as well as cost of living increases and insurance costs. The DNC argues that these costs will soar under the so-called “big beautiful bill” supported by Trump. They claim that America should be the land of opportunity, but under Trump, the American dream is dying.

The initiative comes as the DNC is revamping its messaging following the 2024 elections, where traditional Democrat voting blocs shifted towards Trump and the Republican Party. This includes Hispanic voters, Independent voters, and young voters, who showed increased support for Trump. The new messaging strategy focuses on highlighting the gap between Trump’s promises and the reality for working-class Americans.

The campaign emphasizes expected cuts to Medicaid, food assistance programs, and housing affordability programs under the Republican spending bill. DNC Chair Ken Martin stated that Republicans own this unpopular legislation, and Democrats will make sure voters know who is responsible for taking away their healthcare, food, hospitals, and nursing homes.

The DNC plans to continue pushing this message through 2026, targeting 35 Republican-held congressional seats identified as “districts in play.” It remains to be seen whether this campaign will resonate with Independents and Republicans, especially as the economy shows signs of resilience. However, DNC officials believe that tariff threats, volatility, and unpopular legislation provide an opportunity to break through to voters.

They cite a Congressional Budget Office analysis estimating that the spending bill backed by Trump will increase federal deficits and have a negative impact on working-class Americans. The bill could lead to spikes in insurance costs, housing prices, and cuts to vital programs like Medicaid and education grants. The DNC asserts that Americans are rejecting Trump’s agenda and Democrats are fighting back on multiple fronts.
