Elon Musk, Medicaid fears seized by Dems in new anti-GOP ad campaign

A group closely tied to House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., is launching a multi-million-dollar ad campaign against 23 Republican lawmakers, accusing them of threatening healthcare for seniors and children in order to benefit billionaires like Elon Musk. The ads, set to begin running on Monday, highlight the Republicans’ support for President Donald Trump’s proposed $880 billion in cuts to programs under the House Energy & Commerce Committee’s jurisdiction.
Mike Smith, president of the House Majority PAC’s action arm House Majority Forward, condemned the Republicans for advancing Trump’s agenda through budget reconciliation, which he claims will result in millions losing their health insurance. The targeted lawmakers won close races in key states like California, Pennsylvania, and Arizona that helped secure the House GOP’s slim majority in the 119th Congress.
The list of 23 Republicans includes representatives from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Wisconsin, and Texas. These lawmakers are accused of putting the interests of billionaires ahead of the healthcare needs of vulnerable populations.
Republicans have defended their proposed cuts as necessary to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse in government spending. President Trump has stated that he does not intend to touch Medicaid, but Democrats remain skeptical that the savings can be achieved without impacting essential programs.
The National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) pushed back against the ad campaign, accusing Democrats of fearmongering and lying to distract from their own failures. They argue that Democrats voted to raise taxes on hardworking Americans and are now resorting to desperate tactics to retain their power.
In response to the criticism, Democrats are highlighting the potential harm that Trump’s budget cuts could cause to Medicaid and other federal aid programs. They have also seized on Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency’s efforts to find trillions in cuts to the federal bureaucracy as a new rallying point for voters ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.
As the political battle heats up, both parties are gearing up for a fierce fight over the future of healthcare and government spending. The ad campaign against Republican lawmakers is just the beginning of what promises to be a contentious and high-stakes election cycle.
