Energy Dept saves taxpayers $700M in Trump’s first 100 days, $3B total projected

President Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office saw the Department of Energy (DOE) making significant strides in cutting wasteful programs and saving taxpayers money. According to DOE spokesperson Ben Dietderich, the administration has already saved over $700 million by canceling contracts related to diversity equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives and progressive climate change goals associated with the Democrats’ Green New Deal proposals. This is part of a larger projected $3 billion in savings from the cancellation of additional contracts that were in the pipeline.
“In the first 100 days of the Trump Administration, the Department of Energy has saved the American taxpayer more than $3 billion in projected savings – and this is just the beginning,” Dietderich told Fox News Digital.
The DOE has prioritized suspending contracts supporting DEI initiatives and Green New Deal priorities, along with other programs deemed wasteful, resulting in immediate savings for taxpayers. President Trump and Secretary Wright are focused on making the government more efficient and accountable, ensuring that taxpayer dollars are used effectively.
Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) reported that the Trump administration’s efforts have saved the government at least $160 billion during the first 100 days. This translates to savings of $993.79 per taxpayer. The Department of Health and Human Services topped the Agency Efficiency Leaderboard, followed by the General Services Administration, the Department of Education, the Labor Department, and the Office of Personnel Management.
On the other end of the spectrum, the Department of Justice ranked last in savings, just before the Department of Veterans Affairs. The DOE was placed as the agency with the third least savings, according to DOGE’s rankings.
The savings achieved by the administration came from various sources, including asset sales, contract and lease cancellations or renegotiations, deletion of fraud and improper payments, grant cancellations, interest savings, programmatic changes, regulatory savings, and workforce reductions.
Overall, the Trump administration’s focus on cutting wasteful programs and promoting efficiency within government agencies has shown tangible results in terms of taxpayer savings. As the administration continues to prioritize fiscal responsibility, the American people can expect to see further savings and improvements in government operations.
