Helpless in Iran, family of missing Windsor woman searching for answers
It has been over a month since Shilan Shahbazian, a young woman from Windsor, Ont., went missing. Her family in Iran is still grappling with the pain and helplessness of not knowing her whereabouts, desperately seeking answers.
Shahbazian, a 26-year-old asylum seeker who came to Canada less than two years ago, was last seen on January 4. Windsor police are actively investigating her disappearance, urging anyone with information to come forward.
Her father, Parviz Shahbazian, who resides in Qorveh, Iran, shared that his daughter came to Canada in search of safety and a fresh start. However, her sudden disappearance has left him questioning the security and treatment of immigrants in the country.
Family members, including Shahbazian’s mother Layla Tanhaie, are deeply concerned and fear she may have been a victim of a crime. The family had last spoken to her before her disappearance, with Shahbazian expressing her aspirations to build a better life for herself and support her loved ones.
Shahbazian’s cousin, Midya Morai, who is based in the UK, revealed that their conversations always revolved around her career goals and plans to improve her English skills. Her maternal uncle, Helal Tanhaie, recalled their last interaction over WhatsApp, noting the hope and happiness he saw in her.
Layla Tanhaie, already dealing with health issues, has been greatly affected by her daughter’s disappearance and is eagerly awaiting any news about her well-being. The family is unable to travel to Canada due to diplomatic constraints between Iran and Canada, relying on local authorities to find Shahbazian.
While appreciative of the ongoing police investigation, Parviz Shahbazian is urging authorities to intensify their efforts to locate his daughter. The family is united in their plea for information and remains hopeful for Shahbazian’s safe return.
This tragic situation underscores the importance of community support and cooperation in times of crisis. The family’s plea for answers serves as a reminder to prioritize the safety and well-being of all individuals, regardless of their background or circumstances.
