Trump calls Brennan, Comey ‘crooked’ amid FBI criminal investigations

President Donald Trump has responded to the news that former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey are reportedly under criminal investigation for potential wrongdoing related to the Trump-Russia probe. During a meeting with African leaders in the State Room of the White House, Trump was asked by Fox News senior White House correspondent Peter Doocy for his thoughts on the investigation.

Trump expressed his belief that Brennan and Comey are “very dishonest people” and “crooked as hell.” He stated that he thinks they are “truly bad people and dishonest people” and suggested that they may have to “pay a price” for their actions. The president made it clear that he believes they should face consequences for their alleged misconduct.

The investigation into Brennan was reportedly initiated after CIA Director John Ratcliffe referred evidence of wrongdoing to FBI Director Kash Patel. The sources revealed that a criminal investigation into Brennan has been opened, although specific details were not provided. It is uncertain at this point whether the investigation extends beyond Brennan’s alleged false statements to Congress.

Likewise, an investigation into Comey is also underway, although the specifics of what is being probed have not been disclosed. Sources described the FBI’s view of the interactions between Brennan and Comey as a “conspiracy,” indicating that a wide range of potential prosecutorial options may be considered.

The FBI and CIA have declined to comment on the investigations, and neither Brennan nor Comey has responded to requests for comment. The Brennan investigation was prompted by the declassification of a review of the creation of the 2017 Intelligence Community Assessment, which found procedural anomalies and politicization in the process of its creation.

The 2017 ICA alleged that Russia sought to influence the 2016 presidential election to benefit then-candidate Donald Trump. However, the review determined that the inclusion of the Steele Dossier in the ICA undermined its credibility and violated intelligence standards. The dossier, funded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the DNC, contained unverified and inaccurate claims about Trump.

This latest development marks a significant turn in the ongoing saga surrounding the Trump-Russia probe and raises questions about the conduct of high-ranking officials in the intelligence community. As the investigations into Brennan and Comey continue, the public will be watching closely to see how the legal proceedings unfold.
