The federal government under the Biden administration has come under scrutiny for doling out more than $174 million in grants and contracts to promote what critics describe as “radical ideas” on gender ideology. A new database called “Funding Insanity,” created by the conservative nonprofit American Principles Project, uncovered various initiatives both domestically and abroad that received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the federal government to push left-wing gender ideology.
American Principles Project President Terry Schilling criticized the use of taxpayer money to fund projects that he believes do not align with the priorities of the American people. “Hundreds of millions of dollars have been squandered on programs promoting the idea that human biology doesn’t matter,” Schilling said in a statement provided to Fox News Digital. “Nothing could better exemplify the disgusting corruption that has taken hold of Washington.”
One of the largest grants uncovered by the database was a $1,929,783 obligation from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to the American Bar Association to “shield” members of the LGBTQI+ population in the Western Balkans. This initiative aimed to strengthen human rights, information integrity, equality, and democracy for the LGBTQI+ community in nations like Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, and Albania.
In another example, the Department of Agriculture granted $600,000 to Southern University A&M in Louisiana to study menstrual cycles, including for transgender men and nonbinary people. The study aimed to address concerns and issues surrounding menstruation, including the use of natural fibers for feminine hygiene products.
The database also revealed that the Department of Agriculture spent $229,637 on contracts for “Brazil Forest and gender consultant services,” which work to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment in the forestry industry. Additionally, the State Department funded a theater production of “The Vagina Monologues” in India, translated into the Gujarati language, to support social change towards women empowerment and ending gender-based violence.
Critics of these grants, including Schilling, believe that the Biden administration has been using public funds to push a radical gender agenda both domestically and internationally. The database “Funding Insanity” sheds light on these initiatives and calls for greater accountability in how taxpayer money is being spent.
In response to the scrutiny, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that he is now the acting director of USAID and emphasized the need to align the agency with Trump’s “America First” policies. The Trump administration’s efforts to dismantle USAID and other agencies have sparked backlash from Democrat lawmakers, who have accused the administration of corruption and incited protests in Washington, D.C.
Overall, the revelations from the “Funding Insanity” database have raised concerns about the use of taxpayer funds to promote specific ideological agendas. Critics argue that the focus should be on projects that directly benefit the American people, such as national defense, infrastructure, and natural resource protection. The debate over government spending on gender ideology initiatives is likely to continue as policymakers navigate the balance between promoting social change and fiscal responsibility.
