FEMA extends program for North Carolina residents displaced by Hurricane Helene

FEMA has announced that it will be extending its Transitional Sheltering Assistance (TSA) Program in North Carolina until January 25th. This program, which was originally set to expire on Tuesday, provides funding for temporary housing such as hotel or motel rooms for individuals who have been displaced from their homes due to Hurricane Helene.

The extension of the program will give more than 3,000 families additional time to find alternative housing solutions or make necessary repairs to their homes. FEMA has emphasized the importance of taking advantage of this extra time to secure long-term housing arrangements.

According to FEMA, over 10,000 households initially accepted temporary shelter through the TSA program following the aftermath of the hurricane. However, the majority of these families have since transitioned to more permanent housing options. For those who are still in need of assistance, each county in North Carolina has its own shelters and nonprofits that can provide support to individuals who are not eligible for FEMA’s program.

North Carolina Governor has been pushing for the extension of the temporary shelter assistance program, particularly as a winter storm approaches the region. The Governor’s efforts have been successful in ensuring that those affected by Hurricane Helene have access to the resources they need to stay safe and secure during this challenging time.

It is important for individuals who are currently utilizing the TSA program to stay in communication with FEMA and actively seek out long-term housing solutions. By taking proactive steps towards securing stable housing, residents can ensure that they have a safe and comfortable place to call home in the wake of the hurricane.
