Fire displaces multiple tenants in multi-unit building Boxing Day morning
ST. JOHN’S, N.L. — There were no injuries but a number of people will be displaced following a fire at a multi-unit building reported just minutes after midnight Boxing Day morning.
The fire in a bedroom on the third floor forced the evacuation of the Carew Street structure as firefighters brought the blaze under control. They were later seen removing a burned bed from the building.
The sprinkler system was activated during the incident and continued to pour water down through the lower floors and causing further damage until it was turned off.
Platoon chief Ken Dinn said the damage was being assessed to determine how many of the tenants would be displaced.
The RNC is investigating.
