Fire situation is decreasing somewhat, but risks remain, as more than 400 wildfires are still burning

More than 200 wildfires still raging out of control in Canada this morning as the country’s record-breaking forest firework season continues to devastate thousands of square miles every day.

Rain helped firework situation in parts of Alberta and Quebec over the weekend, but the firework risk remains high in most of the country.

As of this morning, there were 420 fires in nine provinces and two territories, with 207 of those still considered uncontrollable.

More than 58,000 square kilometers have burned so far this year, or an area nearly twice the size of Vancouver Island.

Environment Canada says air quality is good in most areas, although moderate hazards remain in and around Edmonton and Toronto and in some parts of northeastern British Columbia.

The Donnie Creek firework north of Fort St. John, BC, is now the largest firework that county once registered and is still burning out of control more than a month after it started.
