Flu shot appointments open in Nova Scotia

Nova Scotians can now book flu shots online and by phone and receive the free seasonal vaccine at pharmacies.

Influenza vaccine appointments opened Monday afternoon. Nova Scotia Health’s website said COVID-19 appointments will be available soon but did not specify a date.

People can book through an online portal, call 1-833-797-7772 or visit the Public Health Mobile Unit website to find drop-in clinics that offer flu shots. Some clinics accept drop-ins while others are by appointment only.

Anyone with a primary care physician can also call them directly to schedule an appointment.

There are two types of flu shots — one for people aged 64 and younger and an enhanced or seniors influenza vaccine, which provides better protection for those aged 65 and older.

Families can schedule up to six people to get their flu shots in one appointment — a new feature this year according to the Nova Scotia Health website.

Nova Scotia Health said it’s safe to get the flu and COVID-19 vaccines at the same time, but people can also get them separately.
