US Election 2024

Former Democrat running for DA as Republican to restore law and order to NYC

Maud Maron, a former progressive turned conservative Republican, is making waves in the race for Manhattan district attorney after being ousted from the Democratic Party over a disagreement about the push to defund the police. In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, Maron, an attorney and mother of four, highlighted the urgent need for a change in leadership to address the escalating crime rates in New York City.

Under the current Democratic District Attorney Alvin Bragg, Maron described a city in crisis, where criminals are emboldened and law enforcement officers are put at risk. She pointed to a recent incident in which a criminal slashed police officers in the neck and face inside a Manhattan courthouse, illustrating the dangerous consequences of Bragg’s lenient policies.

According to Maron, Bragg’s directive to his assistant district attorneys to not prosecute certain crimes or to seek minimal jail time has created chaos and disorder on the streets of New York City. She emphasized that Bragg’s approach is a recipe for violence and poses a serious threat to public safety.

Since Bragg took office three years ago, Maron noted a palpable decline in the city, with crime rates soaring and a sense of fear pervading the streets and subways. She criticized Bragg’s leniency towards offenders, stating that it creates a dangerous environment for law-abiding citizens and exacerbates the city’s public safety crisis.

As a lifelong New Yorker and a public school mom, Maron emphasized the personal impact of the deteriorating conditions in the city. She highlighted the need for a compassionate and common-sense approach to public safety, one that prioritizes accountability and community protection.

If elected, Maron plans to issue a day-one memo titled “The People’s Plan for Public Safety,” which will outline a commitment to law and order rooted in accountability and community protection. She intends to restore the assistant district attorneys’ ability to charge and prosecute crimes effectively, rather than downgrading charges or turning a blind eye to criminal behavior.

Despite New York City’s reputation as a deeply blue city, Maron believes that there is enough frustration among independents and moderates in both parties to vote out Bragg and flip the district red. She emphasized the importance of convincing people to vote and take a stand against the current public safety crisis in the city.

Bragg’s office did not respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment, underscoring the need for a change in leadership to address the pressing issues facing New York City. Peter Pinedo is a politics writer for Fox News Digital.
