Former NS teacher charged with sex offenses

James William Conrad, a former teacher at the Oxford Regional Education Center in Oxford, NS, has been charged with historic sex offenses.

Conrad, 39, was arrested Thursday by Cumberland County District RCMP in Amherst.

In October 2022, RCMP was notified by an Ontario municipal police station of a historic sexual assault that took place in Oxford between 2011 and 2014.

The survivor, who was a young person at the time, came forward and gave details that she was sexually assaulted by one of her former teachers while attending the school, which has grades from primary to 12.

When the allegation was made, RCMP conducted an investigation to ensure that Conrad was no longer “working in the education system”.

“That was done to make sure there were no other potential students at risk,” said RCMP spokesman Cpl. Chris Marshall.

Conrad has been charged with sexual assault, sexual interference, sexual exploitation and solicitation of sexual assault.

In court in September

He was released on conditions and will appear in Amherst Provincial Court on September 25.

RCMP encourages anyone who is a survivor to come forward by contacting local law enforcement or the RCMP.

Marshall said survivors can come forward to discuss an incident before making a decision to further participate in the investigation and legal process.
