Formula 1’s Brad Pitt is concerned about protesters at the British Grand Prix
SILVERSTONE, England –
Brad Pitt is coming to the Formula 1 paddock for his new movie.
He may have as much chance as anyone else of beating Max Verstappen.
Verstappen is aiming for his eighth win in 10 races this year on Sunday as he heads towards winning the title for the third year in a row.
His Red Bull team has won 19 of the last 20 races as of July 2022.
As F1 welcomes Pitt for a weekend of filming around the British Grand Prix, race organizers and police are wary of potential environmental protests.
Activists representing the Just Stop Oil group ran onto the track during last year’s race and passed close to cars shortly after the race was red-flagged for a crash on the first lap.
Since then, Just Stop Oil protesters have made their mark at UK events including Wimbledon and Ashes cricket.
The group wants the British government to block all new oil, gas and coal mining projects.
Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton indicated he would support a “peaceful” protest, but expressed concern for the safety of drivers and demonstrators should anyone make it back to Silverstone circuit.
McLaren driver Lando Norris said there should be “quite serious” consequences if lives are put at risk.
Six activists who stormed the circuit during last year’s race were not sentenced to prison in March.
Local police have said they will deploy facial recognition technology.
