In a heartwarming turn of events, two young children were rescued from a hot car in a mall parking lot in Georgia last month, thanks to the quick actions of bystanders who heard their cries and called 911.

The Cobb County Police Department recently released bodycam footage of the rescue, which took place on June 4, showcasing the heroic efforts of the officers involved.

It all began when a concerned woman dialed 911 around 1 p.m. after spotting a little boy and girl trapped inside a sweltering car in the parking lot outside Dick’s Sporting Goods at Cumberland Mall.

The 911 call captured the urgency of the situation, with the caller expressing concern over the young children being left alone and crying inside the vehicle.

Upon arrival, officers swiftly intervened, breaking the car’s window to unlock it and safely removing the children. Shockingly, neither child was properly restrained in the back seat.

J’quawn Dixon, the individual responsible for leaving the children unattended, was apprehended upon his return and now faces two felony counts of second-degree child cruelty. The relationship between Dixon and the children remains unclear.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by FOX 5 Atlanta, Dixon subjected the children to “cruel or excessive physical or mental pain” by confining them in a hot car without air conditioning for over 40 minutes.

It was determined that Dixon entered the mall at 12:24 p.m. and officers arrived at 1:03 p.m., responding promptly to the distress call made by the vigilant bystander.

With temperatures reaching up to 117 degrees inside the vehicle on an 87-degree day, the children were fortunate to be rescued in time.

The Cobb County police expressed gratitude to the citizens who acted swiftly by calling 911, emphasizing that their intervention was instrumental in ensuring the safety of the children.

Dixon was booked into Cobb County Jail on a $10,000 bond following the incident, but was later released after posting bail the next day.
