Getaway vehicle was a dump truck: RCMP catch Nova Scotia, New Brunswick crime spree suspect in Lantz

ELMSDALE, N.S. — A 31-year-old New Brunswick man is facing multiple charges in connection with several break-ins and thefts in Nova Scotia and his home province.

Shortly after 5 a.m. on Dec. 27, East Hants District RCMP received word of a man who tried to steal a tow truck from an Elmsdale business. Police say the suspect arrived driving a dump truck and fled in the same vehicle.

A short time later, Mounties received reports that a pickup truck was stolen from a residential property in Lantz, and a dump truck matching the description from the first attempted theft was left at the scene. Police then determined the dump truck had been stolen in Memramcook, N.B., earlier that day.

Over the next several days, police received reports of thefts and break-ins in both provinces, believed to involve the same man.

On Jan. 7, at around 11:30 p.m., officers patrolling the Elmsdale business park in N.S. observed the suspect driving a silver Ford F-150 and attempted to pull him over.

A short chase through the business park ended with police stopping and arresting Travis William Blanchard on Highway 102 in Lantz.

The Trois Ruisseaux man has since been charged with several offences, including but not limited to, breaking and entering, possession of property obtained by crime, theft over $5,000, theft under $5,000 and flight from a peace officer.

He was held in custody and appeared in Truro provincial court on Jan. 9.

The investigation is ongoing.
