Police are turning to the public for tips after the girl was hit by a van at a crosswalk on Gottingen Street in Halifax on Wednesday night.

According to a press release, the Halifax Regional Police Department was called to the scene at 6:47 p.m. AT. The girl suffered “serious injuries” and was taken to hospital.

Police did not give an age for the girl, only describing her as a “female child” in the press release. The driver of the van, a 35-year-old woman, was not injured. In an email to CBC News, police said they remained at the scene. Police said it is “unknown if any charges are pending.”

Traffic on Göttingenstraat was closed for hours on Wednesday evening, but has now reopened. The police are gone.
