Google Maps, FAA officially acknowledges Gulf of America after Trump declaration: ‘Isn’t it beautiful?’

The renaming of the “Gulf of Mexico” to the “Gulf of America” has officially begun rolling out across the United States. This change comes just a month after President Donald Trump announced his intention to Americanize the name of the iconic body of water.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) sent out a charting notice on Monday confirming that its systems were in the process of updating the name to the Gulf of America, along with updating the newly-named Mount McKinley in Alaska, formerly known as Denali.
The notice stated, “Please be advised that the FAA is in the process of updating our data and charts to show a name change from the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and a name change from Denali to Mount McKinley. This will be targeted for the next publication cycle. This Charting Notice implements President Trump’s direction in Executive Order 14172, ‘Restoring Names That Honor American Greatness,’ that the names be changed.”
President Trump announced the name change on January 7, stating, “We’re going to be changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, which has a beautiful ring. That covers a lot of territory. The Gulf of America. What a beautiful name. And it’s appropriate.”
The decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico has been met with enthusiasm on social media, with users noticing Google Maps implementing the changes. Many users expressed their support for the new name, with one user writing, “Google Maps FINALLY recognizes the Gulf of America! Isn’t it beautiful?”
In addition to the name change, President Trump signed a proclamation declaring February 9 as “Gulf of America Day.” The proclamation highlighted the significance of the body of water as an integral asset to the nation’s history.
Google also confirmed its intention to update the gulf’s name in accordance with official government sources. The company stated, “We have a longstanding practice of applying name changes when they have been updated in official government sources…everyone in the rest of the world sees both names. That applies here too.”
The renaming of the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America marks a significant change that reflects the pride and patriotism of the United States. As the transition continues, the new name will become a symbol of American greatness and unity.
