Grassley rips Wray’s ‘failed’ leadership at FBI with 11 pages of examples in blistering ‘no confidence’ letter

Republican Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley has made it clear that he believes FBI Director Christopher Wray has failed in his \”fundamental duties\” and has expressed his \”no confidence\” in Wray’s leadership in a scathing letter. Grassley, who sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee, stated in his letter that it is time for Wray and his deputy to step down for the good of the country.

Grassley accused Wray of failing to uphold transparency and criticized him for various missteps during his tenure as FBI director. He specifically pointed to the FBI’s raid on former President Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, which Grassley described as unnecessary and excessive. Grassley also criticized Wray for allegedly being complicit in a campaign to undermine investigations into alleged Biden-family corruption.

Furthermore, Grassley accused the FBI under Wray’s leadership of showing a disdain for congressional oversight and failing to provide information on important matters, such as sexual harassment claims within the agency and the vetting process of Afghan nationals following the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021. Grassley also highlighted the FBI’s refusal to share information on the \”Richmond memo,\” which depicted traditional Catholics as violent extremists.

In his letter, Grassley detailed a list of failures and shortcomings on Wray’s part, including the FBI’s handling of bribery allegations against former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden. Grassley asserted that the FBI had possession of incriminating information against President Biden for three years but failed to investigate it.

Grassley’s letter comes at a time when Trump’s pick to lead the FBI, Kash Patel, is seeking confirmation from the Senate. Before Patel could be confirmed, Wray would need to step down or be fired, as his 10-year appointment does not end until 2027. Patel, a longtime Trump ally, has been a vocal critic of the \”deep state\” and has advocated for cleaning up corruption within the FBI.

In response to Grassley’s letter, the FBI stated that the agency remains committed to responding to congressional oversight and being transparent with the American people. However, Grassley’s criticism of Wray’s leadership has added fuel to the ongoing debate over the future of the FBI and who should lead the agency.

As the Senate prepares to consider Patel’s nomination as FBI director, the controversy surrounding Wray’s leadership and Grassley’s scathing letter have highlighted the challenges facing the agency. It remains to be seen whether Wray will voluntarily step down or if Trump will take action to remove him in favor of Patel. The outcome of this power struggle could have significant implications for the future of the FBI and its role in American law enforcement.
