Halifax police charge 24-year-old woman following Friday morning pursuit

HALIFAX, N.S. — A 24-year-old woman was arrested following an early Friday morning vehicular pursuit in Halifax during which she allegedly attempted to collide with a police vehicle.

Halifax Regional Police say a suspected impaired driver fled when officers tried to stop the vehicle near Brunswick and Prince Streets.

Out of concern for public safety police chose not to pursue and say the suspect driver attempted to “strike the officers with her vehicle but they were able to avoid the collision.”

Police caught up to the vehicle when the driver lost control and struck a parked vehicle on Tower Road.

Police seized a knife and arrested the driver, who was taken to hospital for precautionary measures.

Haley Nicole Quinn appeared in Halifax court later Friday for charges of impaired operation of a conveyance, dangerous operation of a conveyance, flight from police, resisting arrest, assault peace officer with a weapon and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

She was also arrested on two outstanding warrants from other police agencies on charges of break and enter, theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property under $5,000.
