Halifax Water says people are not preserving themselves; insists on compliance

Halifax Urges Continued Water Conservation Efforts
Halifax’s water utility has reported that there has not been a significant decrease in water usage since the implementation of voluntary water conservation measures. Despite the ongoing efforts to reduce water consumption, the lack of precipitation has resulted in drought conditions in the Halifax area, leading to lower than normal water levels at Lake Major and Pockwock Lake.
In a recent update, Halifax Water reiterated the importance of water conservation and urged residents to continue their efforts to reduce water usage.
“Without significant rainfall and increased conservation measures, water levels will continue to decline, necessitating further conservation efforts,” stated Halifax Water.
The utility has asked residents to adhere to voluntary water conservation measures, including reducing toilet flushes, taking shorter showers, turning off taps when not in use, and only running full loads of laundry and dishes.
In addition, residents are encouraged to limit activities such as washing vehicles, filling swimming pools, and watering gardens. However, exceptions are made for fruit and vegetable gardens.
