Harris hits Trump, Musk in NAACP speech: ‘Shadows gathering over our democracy’

Former Vice President Kamala Harris made her first major speech since her election loss in November at the 56th NAACP Image Awards, where she accepted the NAACP’s Chairman’s Award. During her speech, Harris took veiled jabs at President Donald Trump and Department of Government Efficiency chief Elon Musk, urging the audience to be vigilant and actively participate in the fight for America’s future.

Harris emphasized the importance of staying alert, seeking the truth, and organizing to make a difference. She highlighted the historical significance of the NAACP and the challenges faced by those who fought for civil rights. Harris called on the crowd to use their power to advocate for change, emphasizing the need for faith in God and each other to combat cynicism and destruction.

In what appeared to be a reference to Trump and Musk, Harris stressed that the American story will be written by the people, not just by those in positions of power. She acknowledged the difficulties ahead but emphasized the necessity of continuing the fight for justice and equality.

Harris’s speech comes at a time when the Democratic Party is grappling with messaging issues following the defeat in the presidential election. Like former President Joe Biden, Harris recently signed with the Creative Artists Agency to focus on speaking engagements and publishing, expanding her platform to champion the issues she has long supported in public service.

In contrast, Trump, in his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference, took a shot at Harris by referring to her as Biden’s border czar, highlighting the ongoing political tensions between the two parties. Despite the challenges and criticisms, Harris remains committed to advocating for change and mobilizing the public to make a difference in shaping America’s future.
