Health center in Nova Scotia to bring health professionals and government together

HALIFAX, NS — Nova Scotia is opening a new health center that will bring health professionals, researchers and government officials under one roof in an effort to improve health care in the province.

Premier Tim Houston said the Health Innovation Hub will play a role in addressing strain on the county’s healthcare system.

“It accelerates the development of new treatments, technologies and solutions – and ensures Nova Scotia is a leader in healthcare today and in the future, here and globally,” said Houston.

One of the hub’s offerings is a networking program aimed at improving health care for residents of Nova Scotia.

Gail Tomblin Murphy, vice president of research, innovation and discovery and chief nursing officer at Nova Scotia Health, said the new program helps lead change in the hub by bringing together resources and researchers.

“Networking initiatives will transform the healthcare system through education and entrepreneurship, while helping to train, attract and retain the best in our system,” said Tomblin Murphy.

Various new funding streams can be applied for through the programme. The money will help offset research costs, collaborations with graduate students and the testing of new ideas.

In addition, the program provides entrepreneurial skills training to healthcare startups.
