Homan warns daily migrant arrests will ‘steadily increase’ as Trump admin targets non-violent illegal aliens

Border Czar Tom Homan has issued a warning that the number of daily deportations is expected to rise in the coming weeks as the Trump administration ramps up its enforcement operations. During an appearance on ABC News’ “This Week” with host Martha Raddatz, Homan stated that the administration is currently focusing on violent illegal aliens but will soon expand its efforts.
“We’re going to see a steady increase in the number of arrests nationwide as we broaden our scope,” Homan explained. “Right now, our focus is on public safety and national security threats, which is a smaller population. But as we expand our efforts, more arrests will be made nationwide.”
Raddatz pressed Homan on the potential scale of the operation, asking if all undocumented immigrants, estimated to be between 700,000 to over a million, would be targeted. Homan responded by emphasizing that entering the country illegally is a crime under Title Eight of the United States Code, and those who violate the law will face consequences.
“If you’re in the country illegally, you’re at risk of being apprehended because it’s not acceptable to break the laws of this country,” Homan stated. “Every time someone enters the U.S. illegally, they are committing a crime.”
Homan also addressed the issue of sanctuary cities, warning that their policies will not prevent deportations and could pose risks to communities, law enforcement officers, and undocumented immigrants. Sanctuary cities refuse to hand over illegal aliens to federal authorities when they are arrested, leading to their release back into the community.
In a recent appearance on “Fox & Friends,” Homan urged officials in sanctuary cities to collaborate with federal agencies, stating, “Work with us, because you’ve put us in a position where we have to operate within the community.” He emphasized that while the primary target is violent criminals, anyone found to be in the country illegally will be subject to arrest.
The former ICE director highlighted the importance of securing the border to prevent human trafficking and other crimes. He noted that under President Trump, efforts to secure the border have led to a decrease in sex trafficking and deaths among migrants attempting to cross into the U.S.
As the Trump administration intensifies its enforcement actions, Homan is currently in Chicago with Acting Deputy Attorney General Emil Bove to oversee and support immigration processes in the city.
