Olympic great Jennifer Heil named chef de mission for Milan-Cortina Winter Games

Jennifer Heil, a selfless athlete and leader during her moguls skiing career, has been appointed as Canada’s chef de mission for the Milan-Cortina Olympics in 2026, as announced by the Canadian Olympic Committee. Heil, a native of Spruce Grove, Alta., will bring her leadership qualities and experience as a four-time Olympian to support and inspire the Canadian athletes.
In her role as team spokesperson, Heil will serve as a mentor, supporter, and cheerleader for the athletes, aiming to motivate them and protect their performance. She expressed her gratitude for the honor, acknowledging the importance of perspective and experience in guiding athletes through the pressures of competing on the world stage.
Heil made history at the 2006 Olympics by winning Canada’s first gold medal in Turin, Italy, and followed it up with a silver medal in Vancouver four years later. With 58 World Cup podium finishes, including 25 gold medals, Heil retired from competitive skiing in 2011 to focus on building her future off the slopes.
As Canada’s chef de mission for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, Heil will draw on her experience as an athlete to lead and support the team. She will attend preparation seminars for athletes and coaches, participate in Games-related committees, and help select Canada’s flag-bearers for the opening and closing ceremonies. Emphasizing the importance of joy, resilience, and adaptability in the athlete experience, Heil aims to create a positive and supportive environment for the Canadian team.
Off the slopes, Heil has been actively involved in charitable initiatives, supporting Plan Canada’s “Because I am a Girl” program and graduating from Stanford University Graduate School of Business in 2022. Through her B2ten foundation, she provides training and technical support to aspiring elite athletes in Canada.
Heil’s legacy extends beyond her athletic achievements, as she has been a role model and leader for many young women in sports. Her dedication to uplifting others and giving back to the community has earned her a place in Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and the admiration of her peers.
As Canada’s chef de mission for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, Jennifer Heil will continue to inspire and support the next generation of Canadian athletes, embodying the Olympic values of excellence, friendship, and respect.
