Anti-Trump protests erupt across the country for ‘Not My Presidents Day’

Progressive groups across the country once again took to the streets on Monday to protest President Donald Trump. The “Not My Presidents Day” or “No Kings Day” protests were organized by the 50501 Movement, a coalition of activists united against what they perceive as Trump’s “executive overreach.”
From Austin, Texas, to Orlando, Florida, and Boston to Phoenix, demonstrators gathered in cities across the United States, holding handmade signs, singing songs of resistance, and chanting in protest. In Washington, D.C., more than a thousand people gathered at the Capitol Reflecting Pool this Presidents Day.
Sarah, a 50501 Movement and Voices of Florida organizer, stated, “On Monday, we call on organizations and activists across the nation to once again stand united. We will not cede ground to fascism quietly. We will fight back against Project 2025, and we will fight for the future of all of our beautiful communities.”
Protesters at the nation’s capital carried signs calling for the impeachment of Elon Musk, resistance against the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), and the preservation of the republic. When asked why they felt compelled to protest, demonstrators in Washington, D.C., expressed their concerns about Trump’s presidency and policies.
Jennifer, a protester, stated, “I’m here to protest the president, protest Elon Musk, and protest all the executive orders. He is not our president. Everything he’s done is a destruction of this country. He only cares about himself and his pockets and the pockets of his cronies. He’s not here to help any of the working Americans. Everything he’s doing is mass destruction. He is a weapon of mass destruction.”
Mary Hart, an educator at the protest, voiced her fears for her immigrant and trans students who have been targeted by the administration. She said, “I’m an educator, and I’m scared for my immigrant students. I’m scared for my trans students. I’m scared for my country. I just had to show up and be part of the resistance.”
Jerome Bobowski, a protester from Detroit, led a chant questioning the whereabouts of Congress at the rally. He emphasized the importance of protecting his daughters’ rights and ensuring justice in the country.
While protesters expressed their concerns about losing personal liberties, the White House defended Trump as a “leader for all Americans.” According to principal deputy press secretary Harrison Fields, Trump received a resounding mandate from the American people and is committed to delivering on his campaign promises.
The 50501 Movement, which originated from a Reddit post, has gained traction on social media with hashtags like #buildtheresistance and #50501. The movement takes a decentralized approach, allowing individual groups and cities to articulate their own mission while pushing back against Project 2025 and giving power back to the people.
The protests are not affiliated with a political party, and there is no clear leader of the organization. The organizers emphasize peace and discourage civil disobedience at the events. The 50501 Movement continues to mobilize people across the country to resist Trump’s presidency and policies.
In conclusion, the protests on Presidents Day served as a platform for progressive groups to voice their concerns and stand united against what they perceive as threats to democracy and personal liberties. The 50501 Movement continues to grow and empower individuals to make their voices heard in the fight for a better future for all Americans.
