ICE files detainers against illegal aliens, including attempted murder charges

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently filed a detainer against a Honduran man who was living in the U.S. illegally and is now facing attempted murder charges after a shooting spree in Memphis last week. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) confirmed that 24-year-old Enoc Martinez is facing five counts of attempted murder.

According to reports from FOX 13 Memphis, the shooting spree began just after noon on a Saturday when officers responded to a shooting incident where one man was critically wounded. The suspect, later identified as Martinez, fled the scene. Within 15 minutes, another shooting was reported, followed by Martinez allegedly opening fire on two more vehicles just three minutes later.

In the third incident, a man was critically injured and a woman narrowly escaped being shot. ICE lodged an immigration detainer for Martinez following the shootings. Martinez entered the U.S. illegally in June 2014 as an unaccompanied minor, apprehended by Border Patrol, and placed with a sponsor in Memphis after being turned over to the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR). ICE had issued a final removal order for Martinez in 2022.

In a separate incident, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in New York City lodged an immigration detainer against Felix Rojas, an illegal immigrant accused of rape and grand larceny on an NYC subway car. Rojas, who has entered the country illegally multiple times since 1998, was arrested and charged with rape and grand larceny for allegedly committing a heinous act on a subway in Manhattan.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin emphasized the importance of removing violent criminal aliens from communities, stating that ICE is dedicated to tracking down and arresting individuals who break the law while being in the country illegally. The agency is committed to upholding the law and ensuring the safety of American towns and cities.
