ICE makes major arrest after blue county attorney made controversial plea deal

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and the Virginia State Police recently made headlines after arresting an illegal immigrant who had been released as part of a plea deal orchestrated by the Fairfax County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office. The individual in question is Wilmer Osmany Ramos-Giron, a 34-year-old Guatemalan national who was facing several felony charges, including abduction by force, assault on a family member, and felony strangulation causing injury to a Virginia woman.

According to ICE, Ramos-Giron spent only two months in an adult detention center in Fairfax County before the county attorney’s office, led by Democrat Steve Descano, arranged a plea deal that reduced his charges to misdemeanors. This decision was met with controversy, as Ramos-Giron could have faced up to 16 years behind bars on the original felony charges if convicted.

Despite claims from the county attorney’s office that the plea deal was what the victim wanted, the victim herself disputed this assertion. Ramos-Giron had been deported twice before and had managed to re-enter the United States despite being convicted in a federal gun case. It remains unclear how he was able to return to the country, according to ICE.

Governor Glenn Youngkin’s office commended the arrest of Ramos-Giron on April 24, stating that it was crucial for ensuring the safety of Virginia residents. The Governor’s press secretary, Peter Finocchio, criticized the Fairfax Commonwealth Attorney’s Office for prioritizing the protection of dangerous illegal immigrants over the well-being of Virginians.

Descano’s campaign reportedly received significant financial support from the Justice and Public Safety PAC, with a majority of the funding coming from liberal billionaire George Soros. Descano has been known for his reluctance to enforce federal immigration laws and has a history of not complying with many ICE detainers.

ICE officials emphasized the threat that Ramos-Giron posed to the community, describing him as a violent and recidivist criminal who needed to be removed from the streets. Despite facing obstacles, ICE Washington, D.C. remained committed to prioritizing public safety and removing criminal alien threats from the area.

As ICE continues its efforts to crack down on illegal immigrants deemed public safety risks, state and local laws across the country are facing increased scrutiny. Recent incidents, such as California’s decision to transfer an illegal immigrant to ICE custody after he was convicted of killing two teenagers in a DUI manslaughter case, highlight the ongoing challenges in enforcing immigration laws at the state level.

Descano’s office did not respond to requests for comment on the situation. The case serves as a reminder of the complexities and controversies surrounding immigration enforcement and the need for a comprehensive approach to addressing these issues at both the local and national levels.
